The Portrait Session

with Matt Gladwin

Whether we’re working with dogs or horses, the process of the portrait sessions goes pretty much the same. Have a look at the steps below to see whats involved.

  • A brown and white Spaniel dog running on a light sandy surface with a red ball in its mouth.

    Step 1

Register your interest! It’s that simple, just get in touch via email, social media, or phone. Share a little about your subject and your location, and we’ll take it from there.

  • A black and white Collie dog lying down in green grass and foliage, with alert ears and attentive eyes.

    Step 2

Every dog is unique, and so is every portrait session! We’ll start with a consultation to chat about your dog’s personality, any special traits or quirks you’d like to capture, and the overall feel you’re going for. We’ll discuss location options too.

  • A dog standing on a rock by a lake, looking into the distance, with dry grass in the foreground and blurred trees and water in the background.

    Step 3

On the day of the shoot, we’ll make sure your dog feels comfortable and relaxed. We’ll take our time and work at your dog’s pace to get the best shots.

This phase includes meticulous retouching and post-production, where countless hours are dedicated to refining every detail of the piece, crafting an iconic work of art.

  • A brown dog sitting on a rock in the middle of a shallow stream with autumn-colored trees in the background.

    Step 4

We’ll reconnect, either in person or virtually, to unveil the pieces created in step 3. This is often the first time you’ll see the elements from the creation process come together in their final, finished form.

  • Living room with light blue sofa, white pillows, green plants, wicker and white drawers, wall art of a dog in nature, white pendant lamp, wooden floor, and white walls.

    Step 5

At this stage, your artwork is sent to my trusted printing partner in the North East, where it’s meticulously hand-printed, hand-varnished, hand-crafted, and hand-framed to ensure the highest quality. Once complete, your piece is carefully packaged and shipped to me in Longridge.

After thoroughly inspecting the artwork, I have it delivered to your door.

Matt is simply incredible. We first met Matt for a couples shoot last year and when we got our puppy cocker spaniel we knew we HAD to get a shoot done with him for her. Our pup is only 20 weeks and so is a handful, but Matt was so patient and he got lots of amazing shots of her. Matt instantly makes you feel at ease and you can tell that, as well as his incredible talent, he also has a huge passion for his field.
